The Sphero bluetooth robotic ball is the first robotic ball that can be controlled with an iPhone, iPod, iPad or android device. This is a fun invention whereby movements of the ball are controlled by touch, tilt or a swing of the smartphone or tablet.
Controlled via bluetooth, the Sphero robotic ball has a range of at least fifty foot and has inbuilt L.E.D lights that can produce thousands of different colours to suit the game or your mood. Play with friends and have different coloured balls to differentiate between players, or have fun playing in the dark and use a bright white light for visibility.
The Sphero bluetooth ball allows users to mix reality games with virtual ones, by playing games in the real world but with a robotic device controlled via smartphone devices. Gaining proper control of the ball will take a little time but in the meantime, the Sphero ball is robust enough to withstand some knocks and bumps. Sphero have designed the ball to be used as either a single player or multi player game and a number of apps are available to download. However, new apps are slow to be released for the Sphero robotic ball so the novelty value of this may soon wear off.
This is a fun device though that can reach speeds of three feet per second. Weave the ball in-between cones, play using the golf app or simply use to entertain the kids, this robotic ball will give you hours of fun, particularly if you have a go at programming it. Each full charge will allow approximately one hour’s full use and is charged up simply by placing it into its cradle.
Priced at around £160, this is not the cheapest of robotic based toys and for those just wanting to move it around, a remote controlled car would be a better buy. However, for those who are interested in playing games and programming the ball, this will be the device for you. We hope the Sphero ball review has been useful.
