The 47LG90 LED TV series is a brand new model for 2011 from Korean giants LG. I opted for the 47 inch version and haven’t looked back.

With a built in Freeview HD tuner, the cheapest price at time of writing for this exact model is £599 which would be classed as a budget model for 47 inches of LED goodness. But don’t be fooled by the price, it performs and looks like a dream. Its ultra slim frame would be perfect for wall mounting or on the supplied stand and is finished of in a brushed metal effect which adds class to the modern home. I’ve had this set for a week now, and if you’re one of those people who can’t stand dust building up on your usual glossy television models, this is for you.

Straight out the box, the television is so easy to navigate. The home button on the remote brings up a simple, effective GUI that lets the user adjust the settings with ease. The buttons are also very responsive. I’ve come across many televisions and the LG is one of the most responsive yet.

The Freeview HD tuner is impressive. Standard definition viewing is crisp, clear and you’ll be glad to know, the electronic programme guide is fluid. Previously, other televisions I have used have suffered from unresponsive EPGs. Some points scored there LG. HD channels look stunning on this LED, but make sure you check that Freeview HD is available at your address.

Hooked up to my Playstation 3 and my Onkyo 5.1 set up, the 47LG90 has all the ports you need for home entertainment. There’s even a USB slot to show off images and video clips. I inserted the Transformers 2 blu-ray and wow I was blown away. The picture quality is excellent. Optimus Prime has never looked or sounded so good partnered with my Onkyo amp.

Like all large screen televisions, they benefit from having a separate sound system, and as expected, sound from the built in speakers sounds tinny and lacks bass.

The 1080p LED lit panel is far superior to LCD. Honestly, I would have thought that the transition from LCD to LED would only be noticeable if the televisions were side by side but I could not be more wrong. If you’re sitting on the fence to upgrade from LCD to LED, you have my recommendation.

Good – Budget price yet a powerful performer. SD and HD picture quality is excellent. Built in Freeview HD tuner.

Bad – Built in speakers not great.
